2018 Australian Deaf Poker Championship

The buy in for the Deaf Poker Australia tournament was AU$250 creating an ample prize pool of AU$22815. This prize pool would be split amongst the 15 finalists. The final 15 had some notable names including the founding member and onetime treasurer of Deaf Poker Australia, Mark Theodossiou who exited the casino game sixth. A New Zealander, Chris Blum walked away in ninth position with AU$685. Two other New Zealand players, Rena Muscat and Caleb Thorn, took the seventh and eighth positions respectively. Rena had an AU$915 prize and Caleb AU$1140.

The top five positions were held by strong opponents. In fifth place was Michael Lockrey who captained the 2017 Deaf Poker Australia State of Origin winning team. Matthew Hayman who was knocked out in fourth place and was playing his fifth final table in the DPA championship. The top three, Rino Spadea, Alisha Wormald and Daryl Jordan battled it out for the top position. Spadea was ousted by Wormald’s A-Q combination which beat Spadea’s A-10 against the A-8-6-2-3 board. Eventually Alisha Wormald came out victorious to win a whooping AU$5930.
