CrownBet is the official digital arm of Australia’s premier Crown Resorts. The betting operator has recently signed a deal that sent Tabcorp into a tailspin. Both operators will now offer online betting on smartphones at different locations. All of this will happen while Aussie states debate Point of Consumption taxes (POTC) for online gambling.
CrownBet and ClubNSW Online Betting
Crown Resorts made their intention to focus on their Australian market known in January. This followed a scandal in Macau where 18 Crown employees were arrested for ‘gambling crimes.’ The casino giant has since sold the majority of their Macau stakes and focused on their new Perth and Melbourne resorts.
Crown Resorts has also paid more attention to CrownBet and developing that brand further. CrownBet has now signed a ten year deal with ClubNSW for their custom online betting app. Australians can now use the designated app to bet at over 1200 venues in the ClubNSW organisation.
Tabcorp and the Australian Hotels Association
Almost immediately following CrownBet’ announcement, Tabcorp announced a similar deal with the Australian Hotels Association. Tabcorp’s app will be available at over 1116 pubs across Australia compared to ClubNSW’s 1200. The moves by both brands have sparked the first ever commissions for hotels who use Tabcorp’s app. CrownBet has proved that other home grown betting operators can keep companies like Tabcorp on their toes.
CrownBet and other disruptions
The main drawback of CrownBet’ new app will, of course, be by the Point of Consumption tax. This will be up to 15% nationwide and a further 15% in South Australia. However, the disruption to Tabcorp could mean more benefits for Aussie gamblers until the tax is introduced in July in South Australia. Until then, we recommend both apps to Aussie sports fans.
Further disruptions include New South Wales reversing their greyhound racing ban. So you’ll be able to bet on racing and sports while playing top notch casino games online. After all, there’s nothing quite like enjoying a cold one at your favourite pub and winning big online.
