The Aussie Millions 2018 Poker Championship is one of Australia’s biggest tournaments. This year’s events were wracked with big wins, and one Aussie champ notched his first cash prize. Melbourne native Matthew Howearth came in fourth at Event #23 on 5 February. Other Poker champions have also taken home almost AU$30 million in cash prizes at the Aussie Millions.
The Main Event winner this year was Toby Lewis, who took home a custom-made diamond-encrusted gold bracelet and AU$1.4 million in cash. Lewis is a British Poker champ with a European Poker Tour title and had his first tournament win in years in Melbourne. Other notable wins include Kenny Hallaert, who took home AU$59 535 on Monday.
Record-Breaking Aussie Millions 2018
Despite the controversy surrounding the Crown Melbourne in recent weeks, the tournament has made positive headlines for the casino. Roughly 785 Poker players entered the championship this year, breaking the 2008 record of 781. What’s more, over seven hundred players took part in the Main Event to get to the Final Table. This was where Lewis took home his prizes after beating Stefan Huber and Espen Solaas.
At the end of the tournament, the Main Event prize pool was worth AU$8 million along with the custom-made bracelet for the winner. The bracelet was created by ANTON jewellery, an Australian jeweller. They also created the 26 Championship Rings won by players during the tournament. Overall, these pieces are worth over AU$180 000 collectively.
