Gambling Addicts Targeted by Drug Bosses
Due to the vulnerability of Gambling Addicts, drug bosses throughout the world find it easy to recruit these people as drug traffickers. With an estimated 51% of people arrested for growing commercial amounts of narcotic plants over the last five years, one-fifth of these people have had gambling problems, according to the study compiled by the Sentencing Advisory Council.
Gambling Addicts Being Targeted
What happens is that the organisers of “commercial-scale marijuana cultivation” focus on finding people with outstanding gambling debts, they then offer to pay their debts in exchange for “crop sitting”.This phenomenon has now reached Victoria and people need to be made aware of the issue.
The issue with this is that Police are only catching the low-level sitters, and are not managing to get hold of the bigger fishes. Anyone caught crop sitting will receive a two-year sentence in prison and three years for the principals.
Other findings included methamphetamine, which is the most common drug trafficked in commercial amounts and ecstasy, which is trafficked in larger commercial quantities.
“Sadly, in trying to get out of their debt troubles, such gamblers end up in more serious trouble, being jailed for serious drug cultivation offences.” – Prof Freiberg
