Things may be changing for good in the betting landscape as Tabcorp signs a lucrative deal with the Australian Hotels Association(AHA). This is happening shortly after competitor CrownBet signed a partnership with ClubsNSW allowing players to place in-venue digital bets.
Tabcorp Holdings is one of Australia’s ASX-listed gambling operators now seeking to hold its presence within New South Wales. Their newest effort in this regard is the five-year official digital wagering partnership with the Australian Hotels Association NSW.
AHA’s 1 116 member venues account for $1.6 billion of the company’s annual turnover. This partnership will be covering land-based and digital provisions. AHA will also be receiving a commission should their current clientele sign-up to Tabcorp’s interactive gaming service.
AHA CEO, John Whelan said that AHA is looking forward to the roll-out of new hotel products and technology over the next five years and expressed excitement over the direction Tabcorp is taking with digital wagering in PubTAB’s.
This has caused much concern for most Tabcorp competitors, the likes of CrownBet who recently signed a 10-year digital wagering partnership with Clubs NSW, has intervened, asking that Tabcorp transfers its merger application with Tatts to the Australian Competition Tribunal. CrownBet’s argument is that this merger is altering the Australian betting scene to one that is restricted. With complete control over tote betting rights and retail wagering exclusivity in every state.
Tabcorp’s CEO, David Attenborough said that the deal would maintain their position as wagering leader for New South Wales. In addition, Tabcorp is contesting CrownBet’s wagering deal with Clubs NSW as a breach of their previous supplier agreements.
There is a strong history of cooperation between Tabcorp and the AHA NSW that has seen venues play a significant role in testing out new initiatives like a digital commission, digital odds display and digital form.
