On Thursday night, an unemployed man from Western Sydney received a call that ensured his life would never be the same again. A Powerball employee on the line told him that he had been the sole winner of a staggering AU$50 million.
This unemployed man in his 30s, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated that his winnings would be generously shared with family and friends as well as charity. This is indeed a drastic turn of events, as he has been job hunting since last year.
How Did He Win The Powerball?
Well, this man actually confessed that he did not play Powerball often; this was, in fact, the very first time he had played.
After making his online purchase of the Powerball ticket, he never in his wildest dreams would have thought of walking away millions of dollars richer. Ironically, when he received the phone call he claims that he was sitting on the couch with his wife discussing their future and what it would entail. Little did they know it was going to look so much brighter, so much quicker.
What are the Odds of Winning the Powerball?
This previously hard on his luck man has now joined an extremely short list of people who have won over AU$40 million in Australia. The odds are less than one in 75 million, states gambling company Tattersall.
On the short list alongside him is a couple from Fraser Coast in Queensland, who win Powerball’s AU$70 million. Which, to this day is Australia’s largest lottery win.
Another set of names to fall onto this last goes to a group of friends on the Gold Coast, who also claimed a AU$50 million prize at the end of December 2013.
Finally, 2015 was a lucky year, seeing two wins in the same year. The first win by a couple in a dairy town in Victoria, who were struggling due to the milk price crisis. They won $40 million. The second win was by a man in Western Australia claiming AU$50 million, the biggest lotto prize ever won in WA.
Our Aussie winner has said he will now take this money and share it with his loved ones as well as charities. He said he feels the need to allow everyone to win, not just himself. He further said that he genuinely wants to help people. We at Casino Aus are very happy to congratulate this man on his big win.
